United States Senator Paul Trible called tb^tax reform measure a good bill.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate during consideration of the tax reform bill, Trible said, “The tax reform measure is not a perfect one, but it’s a good bill and it moves us in the right direction.

“Lower marginal tax rates will be an incentive for greater economic growth and job creation.

“This bill will help create a fairer tax regime where similarly situated taxpayers will pay roughly the same amount of tax, and everyone will pay their fair share.

“Moreover, this bill will create a more productive economy - one where economic decisions are based on merit and real return and not on tax avoidance.

“Although this is generally a fine bill, it needs to be improved in a number of areas and I hope Congress will act promptly to make these changes.

“One area of special concern is the tax treatment of contributory pension plans.

“For many, many months, I opposed any changes in the method of taxing contributory retirement benefits. I offered an amendment, narrowly defeated, during the debate on the tax bill, which would have maintained the current tax method, permitting retirees to receive previously taxed contributions to their pension programs before being subjected to federal taxes.
