Panthers

win again

Rappahannock County High School’s cross-country team had a great day last Wednesday, dominating a tri-meet held on their home course against Page County and Brentsville. The boys team tore up the difficult, hilly trails to stun the visiting teams by a wide margin.

Marley Hay paced the Panther harriers, lapping several slower runners in the homestretch to put himself and runner-up John Watson more than a mile ahead of the last runners, Hay blazed his way around the 2.8 mile course in 18:04, followed closely by Watson in 18:49. The third place runner, Jay Martin from Brentsville, finished nearly a minute behind Watson in 19:35.

Neil Burke placed third for the Panthers, fifth overall (20:11), followed by John Dodson (8th, 21:11); Dan Herman (13th, 22:02); Matt Eidson (running unofficially - 14th, 22:22); Tom Taylor (15th, 22:26); Greg Daczewitz (16th, 22:43); Jay Burke (18th, 23:49); Rodney Grimsley (19th, 24:30); and Chris Moyles (20th, 24:45).

Coach Ann Spieker reported that “even in the extreme heat many of the boys knocked several seconds off their times.”
