Dumpsters
Whether the Lee property or some other land is used for a landfill, the idea that the dumpsters should be removed “is a very dangerous suggestion,” Allen Olson maintained. No matter where the landfill is located, it will always be some distance from a significant number of county residents. Those people should be given the option of using dumpsters, he argued. “The dumpsters keep our roads relatively free of trash ... A landfill is not a substitute for dumpsters. It's needed in addition to dumpsters. ”
Residents of Chester Gap and Amissville have already announced that they’ll toss their trash on the road sides if dumpsters are removed and the only disposal site is outside Washington, Susan Lane reported. If the dumpsters are removed, she said, responsibility for policing the area and the roads will fall on the landfill operator, according to the resident highway engineer. “I don’t think it will be done,” Mrs. Lane said.
