4-H shooting

program

BY JAN PALMER

4-H Leader

Four Rappahannock County adults have just returned from an informative and fun weekend learning about the 4-H Shooting Sports program at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center - and we are excited.

The 4-H Shooting Sports program is for all youth 9 to 19 years of age, their parents and any adult with an interest in young people and the shooting sports. The program includes disciplines in rifle, shotgun, pistol, black powder, hunting and archery. Club members are taught the basic knowledge of how to operate a firearm safely and respect and responsibility in handling firearms. They learn the importance of the care and maintenance of firearms. They will be helped to understand wildlife conservation, landowner/hunter responsibilities, game laws, different types of game and techniques of hunting.

If you would like to know more, or are interested in becoming part of 4-H Shooting Sports Club in Rappahannock County, contact the Extension Office at 675-3619 or Jan Palmer at 937-5260. We are certified to offer the rifle and shotgun disciplines at this time.
