‘Killer bee’ program
The so-called “killer bee," a short-tempered honey bee imported from Africa to Brazil for experimental purposes, escaped captivity in 195(5 and has spread northward. A videotape report of a conference on this Africanized bee will be presented at the next meeting: of the Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association on Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Jefferson Savings and Loan Building, 701 S. Main Street, Culpeper. All interested persons are invited to attend.
DAR meeting
The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, will hold its next meeting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, (please note date) at the Culpeper United Methodist Church, with Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, Regent, presiding. Recipients of the chapter’s good citizens and history awards and their families will be honored at a tea. Speakers are Mrs. Thomas M. Johnson and Mrs. Nelson P. Lane. Hostesses are Mrs. Dieter C. Knuepfer and Mrs. George W. Bain.
Dance at Amissville
The band South Bound will play for a dance sponsored by the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, March 12, from f p.m. to 1 a.m. Proper dress is required and persons attending must be 21 years of age. For reservations or additional information call 9374357.
Tai Chi Chuan classes
The ancient Chinese mind and body exercise, Tai Chi Chuan, will be taught at Middle St. Gallery, beginning March 17. Its slow, gentle movements foster both physical exertion and mental concentration. 1988 baseball registration
The 1988 baseball registration for T-ball, Little League and Babe Ruth for ages 6-15 will be held at the Hackley Store parking lot for the Amissville teams on March 12 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Sperryville teams registration will be held at the Rappahannock County Elementary School fields on March 12 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rain date is March 26. Fees will be collected at the time of registration.
Litter meeting March 7
The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) will meet Monday. March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse. According to Litter Coordinator Nina Stamer, the purpose is to plan the county’s spring clean-up, set for Saturday, April 23. Storytelling at Artists’ Forum
The first of the year’s offering in RAAC’s popular Artists’ Forum series is “Our Stories Together, Old and New."
The workshop, led by performance artist Julie Portman, will be held at Blackwater Homestead on March 12 and 13. Ms. Portman plans to use a variety of artistic disciplines to dramatize the participants’ personal stories. Advance registration is required. To register send $25 to RAAC, P.O.
