Though the ruts are gone, replaced by asphalt, modem engineers left the hills intact, and several veteran roadracers have called the Fodderstack Classic the toughest 10K race course they’ve ever run. Running magazine called it one of the 75 “outstanding” lOKs scheduled during the first half of 1987.
Another Fodderstack tradition is the Eva L. Smith Memorial, awarded to the first male and female Rappahannock County residents to finish the race. Other runners will compete for awards in 20 age categories.
