There are a few bright spots in our legislative amendments. We are requesting that additional funds be allocated to localities for basic aid to education to offset, for a time anyway, the new funding formula proposed. School districts will be receiving additional funding for a few years to offset the loss of funding in higher populated areas as originally set forth.
Confusion and disappointment in many school districts throughout the Commonwealth make it necessary for these additional funds to prepare for the future. But with the Governor recommending things like three new museums, the local taxes will have to be raised; and mandated salary increases so dear to the Governor and full state spending for such projects will require extra local taxes.
