Agriculture conference planned

A conference on “Forces of Change Affecting Agriculture and Rural Virginia” will be held Nov. 9 and 10 in Richmond. To be sponsored by Virginia Tech at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service the conference will discuss such problems as depressed farm income, the challenge of new cost saving technologies and the inviable part-time farming opportunities. Flexercise classes

A 6-week series of flexercise classes will begin Monday, Nov. 6. Afternoon classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. at the Washington fire hall. Evening classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Rappahannock Elementary School. Class fee is $30 for twice a week. Call Rose Ann Sharp at 675-3887, evenings for more information. RAAC presents concerts

RAAC is very busy the month of November, presenting three exceptional musical concerts for your enjoyment, said Director Kay Robertson. Appearing one night only, at the Gay Street Theatre on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. is John McCutcheon. Admission is $8.50 to the general public (advanced tickets) and $10 at the door on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. RAAC will present Tony Rice in concert. Admission is $10 general public (advance) and $12 at the door. The Ellis Island Band, a traditional Irish music trio will be appearing on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. This popular Baltimore-based trio is known for its vitality of performance and versatility of repertoire. Performing with the Ellis Island Band will be Jean Denny-Jensen, a superb stepdancer. Admission is $8.50 in advance and $10 at the door. Booster Club to sell fruit

The Rappahannock Music Booster Club announces its annual upcoming citrus fruit sale. Sales will begin on Monday, Nov. 6. Further information will be forthcoming. High school students will be selling these delicious fruit selections for one month only. All proceeds will benefit the band and chorus.

Preservationist to speak

The Rappahannock County Historical Society will sponsor a talk by Hugh Miller, the director of Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources, at its meeting on Sunday, Nov. 5. Mr. Miller will speak on the department’s plans for preserving the Commonwealth’s heritage, and will also answer questions about topics of local and area interest. The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free program.
