A sign on each end of the road designates the area as adopted by The Litter Beavers, and when they begin their quarterly clean-ups, a sign notifies motorists of their whereabouts. “We’ve never had any problem with the traffic,” Mrs. Sanders said. The three agreed that most people on the road did not know of their activities. “I don’t even think they know we are out there,” Mrs. Sanders laughed, adding that most of their clean-up took place on straight stretches of road between each home. “People here keep their own yards and the road in front pretty clean,” she said. Keeping things clean is what the program is all about. And Rappahannock citizens ‘daring to care’ are keeping things clean all around the county. Rappahannock can boast of more than nine groups — two of which are individuals with a concern, The Litter Beavers and Harpers Run —outnumbering surrounding counties’ participation considerably. “I was so pleased with the response to the program,” Rappahannock litter coordinator Nina Stamer said.
