Rappahannock scored first when Liz guessed that the form of transportation using a long list of terms including “paddle” and “dead head” was railroading. But the team failed to capitalize by earning any points from the bonus question, which called for them to tell which amendment to the Constitution restricted the President to two terms and which was the “lame duck” Amendment. They guessed the 24th and 22nd; the answer was the 22nd and 20th.
Wakefield got some points on the board when Lewis answered that a pediatrician was the doctor a variety of parents would go to for their children’s ailments. They also managed to get all twenty of their bonus points by identifying Elizabeth Taylor as the actress who won an Academy Award for “WRo’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?” and Liza Minelli as the actress who won for “Cabaret.”
Rappahannock regained the lead when Matt identified Picasso as the “father of modem art” and with his teammates correctly identified three of four terms from trigonometry. Rappahannock held on to the lead in the first round until the end, when Wakefield went ahead by answering one of two questions on the artistic style “pointillism.” The round ended with Wakefield ahead 55 to 50.
