"It’s 95 percent liquor bottles and beer cans," Mrs. Leahy said, adding they found little fast-food-packaging litter, but Mrs. Sanders added that litter along the stretch — a connecting road in Flint Hill — has picked up as development beyond the road has increased.
“Litter is so unnecessary,” Mrs. Leahy said, adding she hated the sight it made and found cleaning it up no problem. “It’s good for the waistline,” she laughed, as Mrs. Sanders noted that Mrs. Leahy often picked up litter on her walks along Route 659.
The Litter Beavers have four designated months for litter pick-up — though passersby may notice them at other times as they tend to areas in front of their homes.
“People probably think we’re crazy," Mrs. Sanders laughed, adding the three had “quite a bit of fun digging in the grass,” on their litter escapades.
Beauty pageant
in Shenandoah
The Miss "Winter Wonderland” Beauty Pageant will be held on Saturday, Nov. IS at 6 p.m. at the Shenandoah Community Center in Shenandoah.
