Both the Quiet Place and the garth were made possible through contributions made in memory of former members of the church and the Rappahannock community who have passed on. During the dedication service, the names of those memorialized by the garth and the Quiet Place will be recited, accompanied by the tolling of the church bell. Members of each family, from as far away as Texas, have been invited to attend the service.

The garth was completed in the fall of 1988, and was made possible by memorial contribution made in the names of the following former residents: Mildred Thornton Fletcher, Bruton Strange, May Marshall Jones, George H. Davis Jr., Marjorie Pennell Keesey, Carroll Kilpatrick, Edwin N. Montague, Florence Williamson, Dionne Tupman, Margaret E. Muter and Robert L. Pritchard III.

The Quiet Place, which was landscaped and transformed in 1987, was established in memory of the following people: Julia M. Settle, Alice C.Vemer, Annie M. Almond, Weiland Bond Flynt, Clarence J. Miller Jr., Emily Brent Miller and William Arthur Miller.

Some of these family names, a church spokesman noted, have faded with the years and thus remain only through the memorials given here and in other places. “As with the garth and the Quiet Place, most of the furnishings and some of the structure of the church itself has been the result of such memorials — many of whom were leaders both within Trinity Church and in the Rappahannock County community.”

The public is invited to attend the service of memorialization on Sunday. Following the dedication, the congregation will move inside to the sanctuary for the remainder of the service, which will include Holy Communion. A reception will follow the service.
