Spray program meetings
Mary Dobrovir, the county's gypsy-s moth coordinator, has scheduled two meetings this week to gather comments from county residents about the proposed spraying program against gypsy moths in the spring of 1990. The meetings will be held Thursday, Jan. 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Friday, Jan. 5 from 10 a m. to 2 p.m. at theMt. Lebanon Baptist Church in ^ Scrabble. The proposed aerial spraying is part o^ the federally funded Appalachian Integrated Pest Management Program arid includes approximately the southern onethird of the county. ; Animal welfare meeting Jan. 16 * •; The Rappahannock Animal Welfare Teague will hold its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the WashingtonTire hall. All RAWL mfe’mbdrs are urged to attend, and anyone interested in becoming involved with the organization's efforts to find homes for abandoned animals in Rappahannock County is invited to attend the meeting as well. One focus of the group this year will be a continuing effort toward opening the county's animal shelter at the landfill in Amissville. Tax change for ag workers
Beginning Jan. 1, farmers and other ’ producers who hire agricultural workers will be required to^jthhold federal income tax from cash wages and salaries. The law requires tax to be withheld from any employee for whom FICA (Social Security) . withholding is required. It also requires that any employees subject to the new regulations must fill out a W-4„form prior to the first pay period in Janbary. The ' employer will also be required to make deposits of the withheld taxes according to a schedule prescribed by the IRS.
