Imagine going to your employer, who has not made a profit in fnany years and who can not pay the interest on his loans, and asking for a 40percent pay raise. The stockholders of this corporation emphatically say no, yet you decide you really want the raise and take it anyway.
A fantasy, you ask?
Actually, it is a true story of the first session of the 101st Congress of the United States, which under the delusive title of an “Ethics” bill, voted itself a 40-percent pay raise.
Even though the amount of money delegated to this bill is insignificant compared to our huge budget deficit, passage of this bill containing the pay raise demonstrates a lack of sincerity and concern for the citizens and the tremendous financial dilemma most of us face daily.
