'Challenge '90'
appeal begins
Dr. Douglas V. Clarke, Wakefield parent and chairman of the school’s finance committee, has announced a $90,000 goal for Wakefield’s Challenge ’90 annual appeal. Last year’s $79,000 raised was the most-successful fund appeal at the school on record.
The $90,000 is expected to come from parents of current and former students, alumni and friends of the school. A 90-percent current parent participation goal has also been established, Dr. Clarke noted.
An additional $90,000 is to be matched from the business community. The recent $50,000 challenge grant made by James C. Wheat Jr. is the catalyst for this business campaign.
“In an effort to keep a Wakefield education priced to be affordable for the.middle class, tuition is kept below the actual cost pej student,” Dr. Clarke explained. “Donations to the annual fund campaigns, such as this year’s Challenge ’90, make up the difference so that Wakefield can continue to offer its unique and successful education to day students from across the Piedmont.”
