Virginians will have to go to electronic files to have this processing done. A list of such filers will be available in late January.
“The IRS will provide a variety of free tax assistance to help Virginians make their taxes less taxing,” Mr. Petrie added. Help will be available at IRS offices throughout the state and by a toll-free telephone service, 800-424-1040.
The IRS said many answers to general tax questions can be found in the tax package instructions or in over 90 free IRS publications that can be requested using the order form in the tax package, or by calling 800-424-3676.
Virginians can also use Tele-Tax, a service that provides recorded tax information on topics of general interest. The Tele-Tax telephone number is 800-554-4477; a list of the taped tax topics can be found in the instruction package or in Publication 910, “Guide to Free Tax Services.”
