“We advise Virginians to file their returns as soon as all the necessary records are available from employers and financial institutions,” Mr. Petrie said. “To avoid common errors which delay processing of tax returns, review the return before it is mailed. These errors include mathematical errors, incorrect use of the tax tables and entries on the wrong lines,” he said. Processing of a return will be faster if an individual uses the pre-printed label on the tax package and the envelope provided with the tax form.
Virginians expecting a refund may wish to consider filing their return electronically. “When you file electronically, you receive your refund in about three weeks, or in about two weeks if you have it deposited directly into your savings or checking account,” said Mr. Petrie.
