sweet and sour cabbage 1 small head cabbage, shredded , 1/2 cup green pepper, shredded 1/4 cup fresh red pepper or pimento, shredded '• 3T. oil 2 tablespoons vinegar 4 • 2 tablespoons sugar 1/8 teaspoon MSG or dill weed 1/2 teaspoon salt -' Prepare cabbage and peppers. Heat oil in pan; add salt, then cabbage and peppers. Stir for 1 minute; cover and cook for about 5 minutes. (May have to add up to 1 tbsp. water if too dry). Combine vinegar, sugar and MSG (or other seasonings). Add to cabbage mixture and cook for 5 minutes more, stirring frequently. Serve hot or cold. Here is a recipe to be made in your microwave oven. Cabbage wedges with cheese-mus tard sauce t 1/2 medium cabbage (about 1 1/4 '« pounds) 1/4 cup water ■ 1 tablespoon butter or margarine i 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 1/8 teaspoon salt Dash of celery salt 1 cup milk 1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard Paprika (optional) Wash cabbage and remove tough outer leaves; drain. Microwave, uncovered, at high . for 35 seconds or until melted. Stir in flour, salt and celery salt. Gradually add milk, stirring well. Microwave, 1 uncovered, at high for 3 to 4 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring after every minute. Add cheese and mustard; microwave, uncovered, at high for 30 seconds or until cheese begins to melt; stir well. Pour sauce over cabbage wedges; sprinkle with paprika if desired. Serve immediately. Yield: 4 servings.
