An experiment in high altitude winds came to a successful conclusion with the discovery of a balloon ■ launched by a fifth-grader in Waynesboro.
The balloon was found on the side of Pignut Mountain outside Washington by Garry and Sonrisa Charles, who were out for a walk in ■ ‘ the woods. It was launched by Irene ‘ Kaufman, who attends Shenandoah Heights Elementary School, on .March 16. The balloon was found on April 25. Mrs. Charles said she called the school, which was identified by a card attached to the balloon, and they were “thrilled.” She was only the second person who had called to report finding one of the balloons, which were launched as part of a f 'class project on meteorology.
