The Blazers recovered from a nine-run deficit to overcome the Red Sox in the bottom of the sixth inning 19-18 in another game played last Friday.
Bryan Parker led the comeback with a dramatic two-run homer with two outs to put the Blazers ahead and secure the victory for the home team. It was Parker’s second home run of the evening.
Teammates Danny McGuire, Austin Griffith, Daryl Scott, Chris Hunsberger, Mike Stringfellow and Stephen Hood all joined in the comeback with fine hitting.
Austin Griffith also made a standout defensive effort in center field, robbing the Red Sox of a potential long extra-base hit.
The Red Sox were able to score early and maintain their lead until the sixth on several walks, defensive errors and wild throws by the Blazers.
On the bright side for the Red Sox, their centerfielder Eddie Sause made the play of the game in the early innings with a spectacular running over-the-shoulder catch to rob the Blazers of a seemingly certain home run.
James Eastham also gave the Red Sox a fine performance on the mound, but he tired in the late innings. The Blazers showed a great desire to win, never giving up and overcoming their early wildness to ice the game in the final frame.
All Rappahannock Athletic Association Little League games begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Games are played at Stuart Field on U.S. 211 in Amissville, at Rappahannock County Elementary School, and at the Ronnie Pullen Memorial Stadium at Horseshoe Hills on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville. There is no admission charge to the games, and refreshments are available. All proceeds benefit the RAA Little League program.
