May is Older Americans Month, an appropriate time for our nation to focus on providing opportunities for older citizens to serve in their communities.
The time for promoting service by seniors has never been better. Older Americans are the fastestgrowing segment of our population; they are healthier and more active than ever before.
ACTION’S Older American Volunteer Programs — the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Foster Grandparent Program and the Senior Companion Program — have played a pioneering role in assuring that senior citizens are full participants in our society, applying their wealth of wisdom and experience as they help build their communities.
President Bush often says that, “any definition of a successful life must include serving others,” a concept exemplified by ACTION’S 435.000 older volunteers, who last year gave our country more than 100 million hours of service.
