Rev. David Hymes, Assemblies^ of God missionary to Japan, will be guest speaker at Sperryville Assembly of God, on July 18 at 7 p.m. according to the pastor, Rev. Ray Campbell Sr.
Rev. Hymes holds graduate degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary. He plans to teach at Central Bible College in Tokyo and he and his wife, Anna, hope to take part in a church planting ministry as well. Bom and raised in Japan as the son of Assemblies of God missionaries, he already speaks fluent Japanese.
The Japan Assemblies of God was formed in 1949 as a result of the combined efforts of missionaries from Canada, Great Britain and the United States. The national headquarters is in Tokyo and includes Central Bible College. The Japanese Assemblies consists of about 150 churches scattered through the islands and divided into 10 districts.
Rev. Hymes has worked as an assistant pastor of the Japanese Assembly of God in San Jose, California. It was at his most recent pastorate in Cambridge, Massachusetts that he felt God’s confirming call to Japan. “We are very aware of the spiritual struggles which abound,” Rev. Hymes says. “We want God’s work done through us with signs and wonders.” The Humes are encouraging prayer for a breakthrough in J apan.
The public is invited to hear Mr. Hymes speak on July 18 about his desire to reach the million of Japanese spritually imprisoned on their island home.
