many big attention-getting drug busts. Shortly after the task force formed, officers seized 17 pounds of marijuana in Culpeper County — the largest pot seizure in that county, Clarke said.

“That’s the type of thing we like to get them doing,” he said.

Elsewhere in the state, task forces are spending a year or more investigating intricate drug conspiracies. Clarke said eventually he would like the task force to get into that aspect. How soon that will happen depends on what investigators discover, he said.

Participating in the task force will be officers from the Warrenton, Culpeper, Orange and Gordonsville police departments and the Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Orange and Madison sheriffs offices. The number of jurisdictions involved makes it the largest task force in the state, according to Sheriff Woodward.

The task force is headed by a command board of the participating sheriffs offices, and overall supervision and coordination will be provided by Special Agent Clarke.
