Mail Preference Service was created in 1971 to provide consumers with a choice of whether or not to receive direct mail. Further, we do not believe that the solution to the environmental problems is as simple as being removed from as many mailing lists as possible. Consumers who shop by mail are not polluting the environment with exhaust fumes from cars used when shopping in stores.
In order to identify ways in which direct marketers can support environmentally sound practices, the Direct Marketing Association has formed a Task Force on Environmental Issues. We have indicated our commitment to helping to save the environment for future generations by its formation. Toward that end, the task force is conducting a survey of the DMA membership to determine the level of awareness and action on the part of its individual member companies.
We would be happy to act as a resource on future stories on any aspect of direct marketing. Please call on us if we can be of help.
