To the editor:
Your May 3 edition’s “Letter to the editor” on name removal from mailing lists and the environment has come to our attention, and we would like to offer another point of view.
Your writer notes that 44 percent of direct mail is never opened or read. It may interest you to note that in 1989, 91.7 million adults shopped by mail or phone, according to the Simmons Market Research Bureau.
And, a recent survey by the United States Postal Service found that 82.5 percent of catalogs are considered useful or interesting, and 91.3 percent of households are satisfied with mail-order companies’ service. These statistics indicated that people are happily shopping by mail in growing numbers.
