A long-time businessman in Culpeper, he was president of Clore Funeral Home.
In the 1978 election, for the last term before he bowed out of service on the town governing body, Mr. Brown received the highest number of votes among those on the ballot. When he announced his candidacy that year, he had remarked “I am the kind of person who likes to finish the things I start.”
He was also a past president of the Culpeper Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church. For some time, he was chairman of the Town Planning Commission.
On council, he was chairman of the light and power committee, and was on the water and wastewater committee. He also was a member of the joint Town/County Airport Committee, and chaired the parks and recreation committee and was on the ordinance and sanitation committee.
His funeral will be a private one, led by Dr. H.O. Browning and the Rev. Floyd T. Binns. Friends may call at Clore Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Brown is survived by a daughter, Jen Lou Moore; a son-inlaw, Wilson Moore and two grandsons, Robert Wilson Moore Jr. and Andrew Browning Moore, all of Richmond. He resided at Moonshine Ridge in the Reva area.
