We cannot pick and choose today. I would not have suggested we should build two Stealth bombers at $600 million each a year; others think that’s not nearly enough. I would vote to knock down the sugar quota to allow a little more competition in our hemisphere; the Congress in its wisdom decided not to do so. I object to the subsidization of farming, of paying farmers not to grow food; I have read that there will be $5 billion dollars going to farmers this year and most to support the farmers at the high end of the scale. Several years ago it was the Prince of Lichtenstein who owned a farm in the west getting several hundred thousand dollars not to plant! Quite incredible.
I object to the subsidization of businesses where an item does not reflect its true cost because the process creates trash for landfills, pollution in the air and water and all of us taxpayers pay the price whether we use the product or not. I don’t like special interests getting special deals. But in a democracy you take your lumps and get on with it.
I have been an artist for 19 years. Contrary to Mr. Dealing’s feelings, I have never been particularly favored. If we were going to have B-2 bombers, I thought at least they could have a nicely wrought iron grill mounted somewhere in them and preferably an expensive one. They can’t fly at their full speed anyway because they fall apart. No dice!
