Ms Moody suggested that teachers use a variety of strategies in this three-part process, “not the same thing every day.”
She also suggested that writing be a part of every lesson, with the writing a part of the anticipation process, such as having the students write a paragraph about what they already know about a subject they will be reading about, or the contemplation process with students writing about how their reading changed their minds, or summarizing what they’ve read or perhaps relating it to something in their everyday worlds.
“Every piece of writing doesn’t have to end up with a product, and you don’t have to grade it all,” she said.
