Susan bates rounds out the returning seniors as a versatile player who can fill both forward and guard positions. She is the most improved player, Coach Leake said, and also among the most dedicated. Susan stays after practices to lift weights and jump rope, and the effort “shows in her improvement.” Coach Leake said she will probably start at forward, although her 5’10” height makes her a threat in the guard’s spot as well.
Tasha Roy is a junior returning from last year’s squad. She too can play both forward and guard, and is a threat shooting from both inside and outside. The team’s best ball handler, she is a “key offensive person,” Coach Leake is working to teach Tasha the principles of defensive play too.
Sherron Boddie, another junior, also has a nice outside shot with a good touch, the coach said. She is working toward a starting position as a forward. Coach Leake said her good attitude and willingness to work on her defensive skills have helped her as well.
Emma Swatman, a sophomore, moved up to varsity from the JV team this season. She is a good ball handler and a good outside shooter who is “putting the finishing touches on her game.” Coach Leake predicted she will see a lot of time at wing or point position, as well as contending for a starting spot as a guard.
Ane Zorriqueta, a senior exchange student from Spain, is working hard to learn the American brand of basketball, Coach Leake said. She is a good ball handler who has spent the pre-season practices working on her shooting touch.
