Amiss ville United Methodist Church celebrated its 161st Homecoming last Sunday. Mark your calendar for the United Methodist Women’s bazaar on Nov. 10. Silent bids are being accepted for two handmade quilts — one is the Cathedral design, the other is The Washington Square design. The former was donated by Mrs. Irma Lawson before she moved away to Philadelphia. Master quilter Katherine Riley completed putting it together. If you can’t make it to the bazaar but wish to submit a silent bid for one or both of the quilts you may do so by sending your name, address, and phone number to United Methodist Women, in care of Mrs. Pauline Latham, Rt. 1, Box 284-A, Viewtown, VA 22746.
Massanova Pentecostal Church recently celebrated its 64th Homecoming. I recall as a child, when we lived in Centreville, of attending their homecomings once a year, and hearing “Mother Whorton” and her family sing “Meeting in the Air.” My uncle Robert McGlothlin preached on Saturday night a month and then my dad did for many years.
