He voted against a motion to concur in the Senate amendment permitting use of federal funds for abortions for victims of rape or incest. The amendment was approved 216-206 Oct. 11, 1989 and then vetoed by George Bush on Oct. 21. Mr. Slaughter voted against a motion to override the President’s veto. The override motion failed 231-191 Oct. 25,1989.
