Member Grace Sims made the motion to rank Neilsen number one and Moss number two and authorize architect Dwight Matthews and Mr. Luke to negotiate a contract with Neilsen.
The motion passed three to zero. Members Mary Jamieson, who is traveling in Europe, and Lucia Kilby, who had a conflicting appointment, were not present for the vote but had been involved with checking out the two bidders.
“The Library Board spent many hours investigating and evaluating these bidders,” Dr. Young said. He thanked the board members “who participated in this long process.”
In negotiating the contract Mr. Luke will be making certain that it complies with all the requirements for a project using Federal funds. Mr. Mathews will be exploring with Neilsen how the project can be changed to lower the cost. The board will have to meet again to approve the contract. Members expressed hope that construction can begin before the end of October.
The funds collected so far will build the library but not furnish it, Dr. Young reported. “The fund drive will definitely continue.”
