payday, that’s why! We have each shown a sense of responsibility in contributing to a fund to help us in our retirement years.

Now, how about the billions of dollars that have been spent on housing for the poor, on crime, on the drug war, on education, on food stamps. Have those investments shown a profit? In no way! In each of these categories there has been a major loss.

Why? Unless people are willing to assume responsibility for their own circumstances (except those who are physically or mentally incapable) and try to improve their lot as the rest of us try to help them, there can be no “profit.” Welfare and a free handout are not guaranteed for life.

Responsible citizenship is the key to a healthy democracy. That is one of the principles of the Republican Party and that is why I want to reelect French Slaughter to Congress.
