Covering a wide range of items, including student handbook and policy changes, facilities repairs and even opening the food bids, the Rappahannock School Board prepared for the coming academic term at its monthly meeting Tuesday night.
Between passing policy changes, covering administrative duties and other work, the board heard some very encouraging news from Superintendent David Gangel about the direction of the school system’s standardized test results: they’ve been going up steadily since 1974.
Adding to what had already been a strong trend has been the sixth graders’ phenomenal scores on math tests since the introduction of computers. In the past two years, he said, the scores have increased across the board from the low 50s to the low 70s. The jump in performance has also occured, though not as radically, in other testing areas and among other age groups.
