Wilke Green is dying to debate Kay Slaughter, his only formal opponent for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Rep. D. French Slaughter Jr.’s 7th District congressional seat.
“Any time, any place, her doorstep or mine,” said Mr. Green, 34, of Winchester. In his effort to set up a date with Ms. Slaughter, he cornered her on the steps of the Winchester Courthouse Saturday in front of TV cameras. He wants voters to see what he calls the primary difference between his political philosophy and Ms. Slaughter’s: “I am a conservative, and I don’t believe that conservatism and compassion can’t go together. ”
But Ms. Slaughter isn’t biting. Her campaign manager, Kay Peaslee, said this week that the debate ought to be between Ms. Slaughter
