Four-lane

road work

set for Oct.

Work on the four-laning of U.S. 211 should begin in October, resident engineer Robert Moore said.

Mr. Moore said the Virginia Department of Transportation has a “project showing” for potential bidders scheduled for Aug. 29, and that the highway department expects to receive bids in September.

Mr. Moore said the clean-up of contaminated soil at the former location of B&B Service Center is still delayed with tests continuing, but the project can proceed. Contractors may be told to work in other areas until that situation is resolved, but he said he doesn’t believe work there will take very long.

In a related matter, Mr. Moore said VDOT is currently digging up contaminated soil in the median strip
