Grain producers
allowed to vote
The 1991 Virginia Legislature passed house bill 1705 which gives Virginia small grain producers the opportunity to vote on a self-help check-off program.
The purpose of the' referendum is to determine if Virginia small grain producers wish to assess themselves at the rate of 1/2 of one percent of the selling price per bushel on all small grains. The assessment will be taken out at the first point of sale similiar to current check-off programs on com and soybeans
The funds are to be used to enhance market development, research and education programs being conducted with small grains and to develop new programs as determined by a small grain board composed mainly of producers.
All producers who sold small grains two of the last three yeras are eligible to vote.
