'Grtfters' hits silver screen

"The Grifters," starring John Cusack, Angelica Huston and Annette Benning, Rated R, will be shown at The Theatre at Washington, Va., at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.

The long-awaited screen adaptation of Jim Thompson's powerful novel is a gripping film set in a world of deception, betrayal and seduction.

Ms. Huston is sublime as a sinewy tough woman who journeys around the country adjusting the odds on long-shot horses at the track.

Suspenseful and erotic with dark comic twists, film critics say it stands as one of the best films of the year. Time: 114 minutes.
