j New trends in the direct marketing of agricultural products will be the focus of a two-day conference in ,Williamsburg at the Fort Magruder ;Inn on Feb. 8-9.

The Virginia Farmers’ Direct ■Marketing Conference is designed to help farm market operators and professionals improve the effectiveness ’of their efforts to sell directly to consumers.

i' Direct marketing can take many 'forms such as pick-your-own operations, mail order, retail farmers’ markets and even subscription marketing, where the producer grows an amount and type of product based on pre-order by the consumer.

Sponsored by the Virginia Farmers’ Direct Marketing Association, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and Virginia Tech’s Cooperative Extension Services, the conference will feature discussions ay successful direct market operators and marketing specialists on developing new marketing opportunities; subscription marketing, marketing sheep, goats, wool and yam; producing multiple products for direct marketing; producing ind marketing organic foods; handing direct marketing liability; and more.
