Both Luray and Rappahannock had to postpone their opening; games because of the rain and snow. Rappahannock had planned to open the season at home against Brentsville, probably the strongest team in the Bull Run District this year.
“When the snow came, we were forced to go into Luray without any pre-game practice,” Leake pointed out. The Luray squad had the same problems, but, "being at home, they dealt with it better than we did on the road,” he added.
“I went into this non-conference game looking, for strengths (and weaknesses but we got quite a bit more weakness than strength," Leake said. "If you looked at the scorebook, you would not suspect that we played as badly as we did," he said.
“I am concerned about the lack of agressive play on both offense and defense,” he said, “and I am shocked that our overall team hustle was so much less than the hustle shown during practices and our scrimmages.”
On a brighter note, Leake was pleased with the scoring punch of Michael Williams with 17 points and Kevin Jolliffe with 16. “But they were the only two on the team who scored in double figures,” he added.
The two basketball squads played at Central in Woodstock Tuesday night and will Ik* at Page County on Friday before returning home to host Luray on Saturday.
