Following the door-to-door visits in houses or apartments, they would meet for lunch in early afternoon. Frequently they had a large distance to travel. “Travel is quite an adventure,” he said. “Seven might be crammed into a small car, or you might walk a long distance, take a bus and walk some more.”
Some days they stayed in the immediate neighborhood of the church. Other days they went to “preaching points” in villages on the outskirts. “Travel is so tough that it’s better to have preaching points in people’s houses,” rather than expect everyone to come two hours or more to church on Sunday, he said.
After the lunch meal, they would again visit people in their homes and later have services either in the church in town or at one of the preaching points.
“I had a wonderful time,” the Rev. Bare said. “It wras really life changing for me. It changed my mind about how God can work through me. I like to be in control, and that was not the case in Mexico. My catch phrase was ’you lead; I’ll follow.’ We’d go and do whatever we understood they wanted us to do.”
