The Rev. Darrell Bare, of the Washington Baptist Church, spent his Thanksgiving in Mexico.
He was there as part of an evangelism team sent out by the Shiloh Baptist Association, a grouping of 33 churches in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Madison counties. The Rev. Lanny Horton, director of missions for the association, and the Rev. Bare’s father-in-law Jack Sisson, a layman, were the other two members of the team.
They were responding to a request from the Maranantha Baptist Church in Cuautitlan, a town near Mexico City, for a team to help with evangelism in the community.
The Rev. Bare explained that Baptist churches in the Mexico City area are in a partnership with the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Churches in Mexico can request help from teams in Virginia. “They can request a construction team, a vacation Bible School team, a singing group, or in our case an evangelism team,” he explained.
They found when they arrived November 21 for one week that the next day, a Sunday, would be the church’s 18th anniversary, and a special service w'as planned. “I can say that I preached to a standing room only crowd,” the Rev.
