pound turkeys will take three to four days.
If you should need to hurry the thawing process, there is hope. Put the turkey, enclosed in a water tight plastic bag, in cold running water. It is important that the water is constantly changed and that the turkey is covered with water.
One of the cooking methods often referred to by cooks is to put either the ham or turkey in the oven. Raise the temperature of the oven to 500 degrees for a specific time. Then cut the oven off, leaving the meat for so many hours. This is absolutely not a safe method. Do not use this method. This method will allow the meat to stay at a low temperature for too long and will allow bacteria to form.
Turkeys and hams should be cooked in a 325 degree oven until the center of the meat reaches 185 degrees for poultry and 170 degrees for pork. A rule of thumb is to cook the meat 25 minutes per pound unless you are using a cooking bag, then you would plan for 20 minutes per pound.
