HERNDON — Virginia has not escaped the clutches of the recession and will have to pull itself out with incentives to businesses, said Gov. L. Douglas Wilder in an interview with the ArCom Newspapers Editorial Board Dec. 11.
Wilder said the state’s finances give the appearance of improvement but that he will tell Virgipia lawmakers this week he expects to se£ more job losses in the near future.
“Though it looks as if we may turn the corner, this is more temporary in terms of where we stand, because we could lose some more jobs,” Wilder said.
Wilder said many of the anticipated job losses will come as the federal defense budget is tightened.
