Of ethnic art, Ms. Schneidman says, “I look for universal motifs, .where they use symbols in everyday life. I look at a lot of books too, and I am interested in how people express themselves and how they create, how they integrate their art in everyday life. I like to visit countries where their art is integrated into their daily life.”

These symbols or designs are very evident in Ms. Schneidman’s paintings. One of the cards is from a painting of a heart with checkerboard symbols inside it, the Haitian symbol of peace. Several of the other designs definitely show an influence
