Chemogolovka is a science city an hour from Moscow and consists of formerly “closed” branches of the Russian Academy. I chatted about the general state of affairs with Volodya, the driver who had been sent to pick me up.
“And what about Zhirinovsky, to what do you attribute his success?” I asked.
“He agitated a lot” replied Volodya. “He was very active and stirred people up with lots of promises~he will stop crime, restore employment, restore the Union.”
“ What do people know about him?” I queried.
“Not much, his past is dark, but he speaks three languages,” he said.
