On Friday another house off Route 681 burned to the ground. That house owned by Robert DeShazo was rented by Sherry Craft Keys and George Eng. Ms. Keys also has a baby living with her.
No one was in the house when the fire started sometime after noon on Friday, Jan 21, but a dog apparently perished in the fire.
A neighbor saw the fire and called the dispatcher just before 1:30. As with the fire the night before Sperryville, Washington, and Castleton fire department units were called out, but they could not get to the fire in time.
That house was also burned to the ground with only a chimney standing. ,
Dana Turman, who handles rentals of the houses on the property owned by her father, said that the oldest section of the house was a log cabin, 100 to 150 years old. “It’s kind of sad,” she added.
