The Rappahannock County Garden Club had to cancel its January meeting due to the extreme weather and so missed what promised to be an interesting program about birds. Chairman of the Club’s Bird Committee. Edna Metzinger, urges club member and others to be generous in putting out feed for birds, especially during any prolonged period of •below normal temperatures. Many natural sources of food have been covered with ice or snow just when animal bodies need extra supplies of energy producing nutrients in order to survive.
Edna points out that the type of seed mix that is put out influences the number and variety of birds that are attracted. Sunflower seeds are like by most seed eaters and the smaller millets are favorite of many ground feeders. The term “ground
