With five days made up during the week after Easter and five days added to the school year, Dr. Gangel said he is considering using banked time instead of making up the other two days.
He said the School Board will have to make the final decision, but there are only two other days off in the calendar, the Friday before Easter, which is all that is left of the spring vacation, and Memorial Day. He said students and teachers will need those breaks because it is a “long haul” to the end of the school year. , i
He also hopes not to have to extend school any farther into the summer. “If we start continually pushing the calendar back, we run into heat at the other end,” he said. “Our buildings are not air-conditioned.” He noted that some days in May and June he has to close school early because of excessive heat.
Dr. Gangel said he was out visiting school bus routes early Tuesday morning and found that there were places where there was puddled water that had frozen overnight; but there were not many of them.
