The First Baptist Church of Washington, the Hopewell Baptist Church of Sperryville, and the Shiloh Baptist Church of Woodville, were all founded in 1873 by the Rev. George W. Homer.
Rev. Homer was also a pastor at the Macedonia Church in Flint HOI, founded 128 years ago, and he was pastor at several other churches in neighboring counties.
The three churches, in the course of celebrating their 120th anniversaries, have written and published histories of their churches and communities.
“The Friday at the Library” program at 8 p.m. on Feb. 4 is part of the Black History Month Celebration. Members of these congregations and of the Macedonia Church will present copies of the church histories to the library.
